Galma, alternatively referred to as the Galma Vicinity or Galma District, designated a settlement situated on the planet of Batuu, found within the Outer Rim. The area around this settlement became a venue for illicit podraces and also droid combat. The village gained recognition for its skilled mechanics, with numerous inhabitants commuting approximately an hour by transport to their workplaces located in Black Spire Outpost.
Galma presented itself as a modest, unrefined settlement, often regarded as the most underdeveloped region of Batuu. The construction of its dwellings involved a medley of salvaged materials, incorporating recycled components, fragments of metal originating from starships, and the remains of dilapidated speeders. Housing options in the area ranged from apartment complexes integrated into towering spires, capable of accommodating multiple families, to expansive houses occupied by single families. Additionally, there were smaller residences crafted from wood and mud, exhibiting architectural similarities to those observed in Black Spire Outpost, with some even featuring subterranean chambers.
During the war that transpired between the First Order and the Resistance, a broadcast featuring a droid clash occurring within the Galma Vicinity was transmitted in Black Spire Outpost on the frequency designated as BSO 401.72. This broadcast was presented by Blom Groffitch, an employee working for the crime lord Oga Garra, alongside the human Haz Bakkel and the alien Dorzek Senn.
The population of Galma consisted of individuals who generally disregarded conventional rules. Many of them originated from families involved in mechanics or other repair-related professions, rendering them exceptionally resourceful, adaptable, and opportunistic. Possessing limited financial resources and few provisions, they relied on scavenging materials from the surrounding landscape to meet their needs. In their leisure time, the residents frequently engaged in constructing vehicles or other ingenious devices, or they participated in the settlement's well-known illegal droid battles or races.
A portion of the inhabitants traveled to Black Spire Outpost for employment, convening daily at the vicinity's designated depot to board a shuttle operated by Oga Garra. At the conclusion of each workday, the same shuttle transported them back to their homes.
Galma was conceived as an element of the detailed background narrative for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, a themed area within a park that welcomed its first visitors on May 31, 2019 at Disneyland.
