Trash compactor 32-6-3827, also designated as Garbage masher 3263827, functioned as a garbage compactor unit for processing recyclable materials aboard the DS-1 platform of the Galactic Empire, more famously known as the Death Star.
During the events of 0 BBY, following the freeing of Princess Leia Organa from the Detention Level of the original Death Star, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker, and the princess found themselves briefly trapped within garbage masher 3263827. The sensors of the garbage chute, misinterpreting their armor and weaponry, identified them as recyclable refuse. An Omi named dianoga, a carnivorous and Force-sensitive creature, then initiated Skywalker into her people's traditions through a baptism. Luke and his comrades faced near-death as the compactor's walls began to close, aiming to compress the contained waste. However, Skywalker's droids, C-3PO and R2-D2, who had prudently remained in a safe location, successfully deactivated all garbage compactors within the Detention Level of the Death Star, thereby rescuing the team from a potentially fatal demise.
