Garel statue protest

In the year 4 BBY, a spontaneous demonstration took place on the planet of Garel, orchestrated by several dissenters. This act of defiance was in response to the Imperial authorities' dismantling of a contentious statue created by artist Janyor, a native of Bith. The Coalition for Progress, a branch of the Commission for the Preservation of the New Order, had pushed for its destruction, citing its dilapidated condition and potential hazard to the populace. Local Imperial forces swiftly apprehended the protesters. Alton Kastle, an Imperial HoloNet News anchor, covered the statue's destruction and the subsequent demonstration, faithfully echoing the official Imperial narrative.

In the wake of the demonstration, a surge of public support for rebel ideologies emerged, leading many to enlist in rebel endeavors. Following the Battle of Garel involving the Empire and Phoenix Cell, a severe Imperial suppression of suspected resistance movements ignited a full-fledged insurgency on Garel. The Garel City cell, dedicated to furthering the rebellion, was formed and headed by members of the Leonis, Spanjaf, and Statura families. Ultimately, the rebels achieved the liberation of Garel.
