Geonosian hive-mind

Geonosian hive-mind, also known as Geonosian, represents the language utilized by the Geonosians. These Geonosians are a semi-insectoid species that are native to the planet of Geonosis. Notably, both the protocol droid designated 0-0-0 and Orson Krennic possessed the ability to communicate in this language.

Behind the scenes

The Geonosian language made its initial appearance in the 2002 cinematic release, Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. This film is the second entry in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. The eighth episode, "Brain Invaders," from the second season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, identified it as Geonosian. This episode was broadcast on December 4, 2009. The 2015 comic book Darth Vader 4 was the first to identify the language as Geonosian hive-mind.

The "Geonosian hive-mind" language came to fruition through the combination of three distinct sound recordings made by Matthew Wood under the direction of Ben Burtt during a trip to Australia. While in Melbourne, Wood captured the mating calls of penguins at a local reserve. Additionally, in Cairns, Wood recorded the sounds of a group of fruit bats as they competed for a banana. Wood also captured the sounds of flying foxes in Australia. Burtt then synthesized these recordings to construct the Geonosian language.
