The Great Fish Famine represents a period of starvation concerning fish on the planet known as Sakavi Tar, taking place around 9 BBY. The Sakavian fisherman Skoova Stev is known as the one who saved the planet from the famine, that is, until Wan'yek Whett and his crew arrived on Sakavi Tar. By fishing to excess, Whett made the famine even worse. Skoova struck a bargain with Whett in order to put a stop to the overfishing. Whett was not permitted to fish on Sakavi Tar in exchange for Skoova's assistance in catching fish. Whett gave his word, but after Skoova was expelled from the crew, he eventually went back to fishing on the planet, which caused the people of the village to starve and die.
The video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which was released in 2023 by Respawn Entertainment, contained a reference to the Great Fish Famine.
