Groth was a planetary body, a world of terrestrial nature, that resided in the Groth system. This system was situated within the Bootana Hutta region, itself located in the Hutt Space sector of the Slice. Hyperlanes provided connectivity between it and the Kor Desilijic, Kor Gejalli, alongside the Saki system. In a prior era, Groth functioned as the throneworld for one of the clans belonging to the Hutt species; however, it ultimately evolved into a resort destination where Hutts engaged in gambling and attended gladiatorial combat for their [time](/article/time/legends] and entertainment.
Around 3643 BBY, an information broker operating from Groth, who had implemented numerous security measures, illegally accessed a military database, performing a sliced operation, and acquired confidential data. Following this, an individual linked to one of the opposing factions in the ongoing struggle between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire dispatched an associate to Groth. The purpose was to both erase the compromised data and seize the client roster of the information broker. The associate then skillfully led the slicer into a carefully planned trap, successfully capturing both the slicer and the coveted list.
The initial mention of Groth occurred in The Essential Atlas, a reference publication from 2009 collaboratively authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry. This book situated Groth within grid square S-11. Subsequently, the world was referenced in a Slicing Crew Skill mission featured in the 2011 BioWare video game, Star Wars: The Old Republic. Initially, the mission was exclusively accessible to players aligned with the Sith Empire; however, both this limitation and details concerning the mission's outcome have since been removed from the game.
