Sanyassan
Sanyassans constituted a humanoid species located within the galaxy. One notable individual from this species was a pirate called Gruk, who commanded fellow Sanyassans in various illicit activities during the New Republic Era. These marauders clashed with the crew led by Sidon Ithano in the galaxy's Lost Clusters region. Ultimately, Ithano's crew overpowered Gruk's contingent and seized control of his Munificent-class star frigate.
Behind the scenes
This species made its initial appearance in Star Wars canon via "Tales of Villainy: The Crimson Corsair and the Crime Lords of the Barren Rim," a narrative penned by Landry Q. Walker and featured in 2021's Star Wars Adventures (2020) 7. Walker disclosed on Twitter that the Sanyassans were conceived as the same Sanyassan pirates that initially featured in the 1985 television film Ewoks: The Battle for Endor. Walker's original concept involved the pirates being Ewoks themselves, but narrative complexities resulted in the Sanyassans assuming that position at a later point.
