Chaos
The mythological realm of Chaos, also called the Void, was conceptualized as a place of disarray. When used to signify Hell, it implied a negative existence after death—deck officer Tigran Jamiro once quipped to Han Solo that he would likely perish from the cold on Hoth's frozen expanses, prior to Solo's rescue of Luke Skywalker, prompting Solo's retort, "Then we'll see you in Hell!" It could also function as an expletive. For example, clone trooper CT-782 "Hevy" exclaimed, "What the hell was that?" following the demise of CT-4040 "Cutup" by a Rishi eel on the Rishi Moon; similarly, after "Hevy" claimed a kill of a droid commando, CT-1409 "Echo" sarcastically replied, "Like hell you did." Owen Lars once warned Luke that if the units in the south range weren't repaired by noon, "or there'll be hell to pay." Mae-ho Aniseya, having broken free and escaping on Polan GX-8's escape vessel, taunts Jedi Master Sol with the words, "See you in hell, Jedi."
A Naboo legend describes Chaos as a chasm restrained by six unbreachable barriers. Echoing this legend, Theed's power generator's seemingly bottomless core was secured behind six laser gates.
Behind the scenes
The term "Chaos" first appeared in the Legends novelization Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker, where Darth Vader angrily shouts at Captain Antilles, "Chaos take your mission!" The term "hell" was initially spoken in the movie Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
In Greek mythology, Chaos is analogous to Tartarus, the Greek equivalent of Hell, and the original emptiness of the universe before creation. It is also the name of the primordial goddess (Kaos/Χαος in Greek, often spelled Kháos, with Chaos being the usual English spelling).
