Home Planet Party

The Home Planet Party emerged as a political force on the planet Bandomeer around 45 BBY. The [year](/article/standard_year/legends] of its inception saw it championing the cause of replanting the planet's fields and wresting control of Bandomeer's natural wealth from the grip of external corporations. Established by VeerTa, a Meerian native, the party held dominion over the Home Planet Mine, situated near the capital city of Bandor. However, VeerTa's leadership was cut short by her arrest, following the revelation of her secret alliance with Xanatos, an agent of the Offworld Mining Corporation. Xanatos manipulated her as part of his plot to kill Qui-Gon Jinn, his former Jedi Master.

History

Around 45 BBY, the Meerian patriot VeerTa established the Home Planet Party as a political entity on Bandomeer, a world known for its extensive mining operations. The party's primary objective was to liberate Bandomeer from its reliance on external financial assistance, aiming to enhance the planet's overall condition. To achieve this, the Home Planet Party, guided by VeerTa, forged a partnership with the Arcona Mineral Harvest Corporation, with the intention of developing an independent mine, free from the control of off-world corporations like the Offworld Mining Corporation.

In 45 BBY, a meeting took place involving VeerTa, Governor SonTag, Clat'Ha, representing the Arcona Mineral Harvest Corporation, and Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn. They convened with Xanatos, the representative of the Offworld Corporation and a former Jedi Padawan under Jinn's tutelage. During this assembly, Xanatos proposed allocating ten percent of Offworld's earnings to support the Home Planet Party's reclamation endeavors, seeking to demonstrate Offworld's genuine desire for a friendly relationship, despite its controversial past. However, the meeting was disrupted by a gas explosion at the Home Planet Mine, causing significant damage and obliterating the intended meeting venue. In the aftermath, ionite, a valuable and scarce material exceeding the worth of the initially mined azurite, was discovered deep within the mine. The explosion also resulted in the destruction of the accumulated azurite stockpile, pushing the mine into bankruptcy.

Driven by the prospect of profiting from the ionite despite the mine's financial woes, VeerTa redirected a portion of the funds provided by Xanatos for mine repairs towards ionite extraction. Secretly aligning herself with Xanatos, she informed him about the ionite discovery and allowed him to exert covert control over the Home Planet Mine. Xanatos then deceived VeerTa, utilizing her to place ion bombs across Bandomeer. VeerTa's treachery was exposed when Jinn and his young Jedi apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi, uncovered Xanatos's scheme to kill his former Master by destroying Bandomeer with Jinn still present. They successfully prevented the detonation of Xanatos's ion bombs, thus saving the planet. Subsequently, VeerTa was apprehended for her complicity with Xanatos.

Organization

The Home Planet Party aimed to restore Bandomeer's agricultural lands, returning the planet to its former splendor, and to reclaim control over its resources, which were largely in the hands of off-world entities. Founded by the dedicated VeerTa, the party shared ownership of the Home Planet Mine with the Arcona Mineral Harvest Corporation.
