Horell

Horell, known by the inhabitants of Nal Hutta as The Black Death, was a male Human employed by the Czerka Corporation during the Cold War that transpired between the Galactic Republic and the resurgent Sith Empire. In the year 3643 BBY, he held the position of a senior administrator within the organization and decided to take a recreational trip to the planet Hutta. Once on Hutta, he engaged in hunting the indigenous Evocii species purely for amusement, thus earning the moniker "The Black Death" from the Evocii, a name derived from the color of the equipment he used for hunting. Var'soonta, a Twi'lek who traded salvaged goods with the Evocii, requested that an individual aligned with the Empire convince Horell to cease the killing of his customers. This individual then located the Black Death's speeder and proceeded to destroy several of his droids. However, upon being confronted by the hunter, the individual was successfully bribed into leaving him undisturbed.

Biography

Horell, a male Human who served as a senior administrator for the Czerka Corporation, lived during the era of the Cold War. This conflict occurred between the Galactic Republic and the resurgent Sith Empire. During this period, specifically in 3643 BBY, he chose to spend his vacation on the planet Nal Hutta, which had become the adopted homeworld of the Hutt species. While on Hutta, he took to hunting the native Evocii species as a form of recreation, which led to him being called "Black Death" by the Evocii due to the black colored hunting attire he wore. His hunting activities were centered around the swamps located near an Evocii work camp close to Jiguuna, an industrial town under the control of a Hutt crime lord known as Suudaa Nem'ro. For his hunting expeditions, the administrator utilized a speeder accompanied by a number of hunting droids. These droids were left to guard his speeder while he pursued his hunts. Initially, the Black Death only targeted Evocii who were considered rebellious, but he soon broadened his scope to include any Evocii he could find, even those from the work camp. As trophies from each Evocii he killed, he collected their ears and teeth.

The Black Death's speeder and droids

A Twi'lek salvage dealer named Var'soonta, who operated a store within the work camp, offered compensation to an Imperial-aligned individual who was visiting his shop. The offer was made in exchange for convincing the Black Death to put an end to his Evocii killings, as it was negatively impacting Var'soonta's business. The individual successfully located the hunter's speeder and proceeded to destroy at least six of his droids. This action successfully drew the hunter's attention. The Black Death quickly arrived at his speeder in an attempt to prevent the individual from causing further damage to his property. In a state of outrage, he demanded to know the individual's intentions. When the individual stated that they were there to stop him from killing Evocii, the Black Death expressed disbelief, claiming that no one could possibly care enough about the Evocii to take such action. He then proposed to pay the individual to leave him alone so that he could resume his hunting activities, an offer which the individual accepted. The administrator provided the individual with 122 credits, a Nal Hutta commendation, and some gear. Following this exchange, the individual departed, and the hunter resumed his hunting activities.

Personality and traits

The Black Death viewed the Evocii he hunted as being on par with non-sentient species, such as Akk dogs, which were also inhabitants of Nal Hutta's swamps. As a result of this perception, he did not experience any moral conflict regarding their hunting and believed that no other being could possibly have any objections either. He became greatly angered when his property was damaged, but he opted to compensate those responsible for the damage to ensure they would leave him alone rather than engaging in physical confrontation. He exhibited a notable degree of cowardice and was quick to surrender if threatened with physical violence. He also held a significant amount of respect and fear for Nem'ro the Hutt. Physically, the Black Death was characterized by his pale skin, black hair, and green eyes.

Equipment

The Black Death possessed a number of hunting droids that accompanied him on his hunting trips. These droids were tasked with guarding the speeder he used for transportation within the swamps of Hutta. During his hunts, he wore black and yellow hunting attire and carried a Blaster rifle on his back.

Behind the scenes

The initial appearance of the Black Death was in the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, which was released by BioWare in 2011. He makes an appearance on the planet Nal Hutta, which serves as the starting planet for players who choose to play as either the Bounty Hunter or Imperial Agent classes. He is involved in the quest titled "Trophy Hunter," where the player is tasked with stopping him from hunting Evocii. The player is presented with the "dark side" option of accepting credits in exchange for leaving the hunter undisturbed, as well as the "light side" option of refusing his offer. If the player chooses the "light side" option, they are then given another choice: to kill him, which is considered a "dark side" option, or to inform him that Nem'ro is displeased with his actions, which causes him to flee the planet, considered a "light side" option. This article assumes that the player selected the first "dark side" option, as only players of the Bounty Hunter and Imperial Agent classes are eligible to undertake this quest, and both are aligned with the Empire, thus assumed to have a full "dark side" alignment.
