Hyperspace sextant

A device employed for hyperspace navigation, known as a hyperspace sextant, predates the Cold War by four millennia. One such instrument was in the possession of Maz Kanata, specifically inside her curio box located within her castle situated on Takodana. Following the conclusion of the Imperial Era, Riley received a welcome package from the Irving Boys. This "onboarding pack" contained a hyperspace sextant, along with a Smuggler's Guide logbook, among other items. Subsequently, Quiggold suggested her as a crew member to the Gray Gundarks in return for a satchel containing the logbook, in which he noticed the damaged sextant.

Behind the scenes

The reference book Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, authored by Pablo Hidalgo and released in 2015, marked the initial mention of hyperspace sextants. Within the realm of Star Wars Legends, a comparable tool called an astrogation plotter was originally introduced in Platt's Smugglers Guide, a 1997 addition to Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games.
