Quiggold was a pirate of the Gabdorin species, originating from the planet Gabdor. He held the position of First Mate within Captain Sidon Ithano's pirate crew.
A Gabdorin pirate, Quiggold was Captain Sidon Ithano's First Mate in his crew. He came from Gabdor. In the decades following the Galactic Civil War, the crew's operations were mainly in the Outer Rim. Quiggold participated in Ithano's search for a potentially lost shipment of kyber crystals that were supposed to be delivered to Count Dooku during the time of the Clone Wars. Ultimately, he and his fellow crew members discovered Kix, a clone trooper who had been frozen in stasis, as well as the locations of long-abandoned former Separatist bases.
Furthermore, Quiggold went with Captain Ithano to Takodana Castle thirty years after the Battle of Endor. There, Finn, a First Order defector on the run, requested to join their crew in return for safe passage to the Outer Rim, beyond the reach of the First Order.
Quiggold's attire included a simple brown hood. He had a prosthetic leg made from a fuel funnel, and he carried prayer beads constructed from hyperdrive plotter pins.
Quiggold's debut was in the short story "The Crimson Corsair and the Lost Treasure of Count Dooku," penned by Landry Q. Walker. It was part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens multi-media campaign, which preceded the release of Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens in 2015. The character also had a small role in the movie itself, portrayed by Scott Richardson, an amputee. Chris Clarke, a key animatronic designer, controlled and voiced the character, with additional support from Patrick Comerford. The Quiggold costume's mask was an animatronic, enabling Clarke to manipulate the character's facial expressions while delivering his lines using a performance delivery system. Although Richardson expressed interest in returning for Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, neither he nor the character appeared in that film.
Quiggold was featured in the Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens toy line as part of a two-pack with Delphidian Captain Sidon Ithano. The packaging identified him as "First Mate Quiggold."
