The Iltan clan existed on the planet [Pijal], located in the Inner Rim. The clan procured varactyls from Utapau, a species of rideable animals, several decades prior to 40 BBY. This import was done to improve their chances in the ceremonial Grand Hunt races of Pijal. As time passed, the native Pijali engaged in breeding practices, resulting in Pijal varactyls, a distinctive aerodynamic subspecies found only on Pijal. By 40 BBY, Rael Averross, the lord regent, became aware of the Iltan clan's initial act of importing the creatures.
Ardis San Tekka, the Director of Creature Cartography for the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts, made reference to the Iltan clan in her journal in an entry pertaining to varactyls, sometime after 35 ABY.
The novel Master & Apprentice, penned by Claudia Gray in 2019, included a mention of the Iltan clan.
