The Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts (GSCE) was an organization whose primary focus was the in-depth study of, and search for answers regarding, the vast and diverse array of species that populated the galaxy. Originally established during the High Republic Era with the goal of documenting newly discovered creatures within the Galactic Frontier, the Society broadened its scope over the subsequent centuries to include the advocacy of conservation efforts and the preservation of wilderness as fundamental principles. The organization produced educational content distributed across the HoloNet and also published a monthly newsletter, which had reached almost 5000 editions around the period of the First Order-Resistance War.
To effectively document wildlife in hazardous locales, the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts commissioned Serv-O-Droid, Inc. to develop specialized Safari droids. These droids were programmed to autonomously explore the galaxy, observe creatures within their natural environments, and transmit the information gathered back to the Society.
The Coronet City Chapter of the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts was based in Coronet City on the planet Corellia and was under the leadership of Chief Inspector Deemus Abrus. They collaborated with the local government to ensure that particular creatures were not traded on the black market. In 230 BBY, they intervened to prevent the Shani singer Crufeela from consuming the Bonbrak Teetak, with Abrus suggesting the Bronbrak be relocated to the Blue Peaks of the planet to aid in repopulation.
SF-R3 is one such example of these Safari droids, traveling during or after 34 ABY in conjunction with another droid referred to as CAM. M1-RE, also known as Miree, provides another instance of these Safari droids, as a specialized member of the Society. Stationed on the Youngling Care Space Station, she provided care for various species of younglings and was documented by the cam droid CAM-E.
The Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts was conceived for Star Wars Galaxy of Creatures, an animated web series that premiered on StarWarsKids.com on October 14, 2021 and continued until November 18, 2021. When the concept arose that Aree, the show's central character, belonged to a research organization, Lucasfilm Story Group's Matt Martin drew inspiration from the Adventurers' Club of New York, leading to the creation of the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts. Lucasfilm developed the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts Activity Book for families to engage with while watching the series. This sheet was included in an article announcing the series, which was released on StarWars.com on October 14, 2021. After completing this activity sheet, viewers have the opportunity to sign their name on a certificate, which recognizes them as an honorary member of the Society and grants them the associated fellowship and privileges.
