A Senate cam droid
Hovercams, also known as cam droids or holocam droids, functioned as independently operating recording devices utilizing repulsorlift technology. These droids were employed to continuously document the sessions of the Galactic Republic's Senate. One model, the Hologlide J57, was deployed on Tatooine to capture footage of the Boonta Eve Classic podracing competition. When equipped with holocams, these droids were referred to as holocam droids, and they were used in the New Republic Senate. Additionally, cam droids saw use during grav-ball games held on Lothal.
Around or following 34 ABY, a cam droid named CAM became a part of the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts, working alongside the Safari droid SF-R3. They journeyed across the galaxy aboard a starship, studying various wildlife species. CAM transmitted footage of SF-R3's interactions with these creatures via the HoloNet, sending their research back to the Society. CAM-E, another cam droid associated with the Society, was stationed at the Youngling Care Space Station with the Safari droid M1-RE, also known as Miree. CAM-E documented Miree's care for and study of different youngling species, broadcasting the footage across the Holonet.
