Deemus Abrus was a Twi'lek of the female persuasion. During the High Republic Era, she held the position of Chief Inspector for the Coronet City Chapter of the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts. Working in conjunction with Corellian law enforcement, Abrus played a role in apprehending the infamous Shani singer Crufeela after Crufeela attempted to eat the Bonbrak Teetak. Abrus proposed relocating Teetak to the Blue Peaks on Corellia with the goal of increasing the population there.
Midnight Horizon, a 2022 book penned by Daniel José Older as part of Phase I of the Star Wars: The High Republic multi-platform project, featured Deemus Abrus. Within the pages of the novel, Abrus and the Arcona named Smeemarm exchanged a significant glance following their joint effort in the capture of Crufeela. Older verified on Twitter that his intention in writing that scene was to imply a romantic connection between Smeemarm and Abrus. While he initially believed the implication was evident, he later conceded that some readers found the text ambiguous. This realization came during a conversation with fellow Star Wars writer Alyssa Wong regarding a parallel circumstance involving two of their characters, Chelli Lona Aphra and Domina Tagge.
