Alys Ongwa's security team on Corellia included Smeemarm, an Arcona female operative. Smeemarm's role involved leading Tunnel Team Twelve to safeguard the underground areas of the city. This occurred during the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, Lina Soh's, visit to Coronet City. During the visit, the Nihil unleashed scav droids, and Smeemarm encountered and destroyed one of the droids within the tunnels.
The first appearance of Smeemarm was in "Crash and the Crew Do What They Do," a comic story. This story was featured in The High Republic Adventures Annual 2021, a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures series, which fell under Phase I of the larger Star Wars: The High Republic project. Daniel José Older wrote the story, Jesse Lonergan provided the illustrations, and IDW Publishing released it on December 15, 2021. Subsequent to the comic's publication, Lonergan shared unlettered pages from the work, including two featuring Smeemarm. She later appeared in Midnight Horizon, a 2022 novel by Older, also part of Phase I of Star Wars: The High Republic.
In Midnight Horizon, Smeemarm and Chief Inspector Deemus Abrus exchanged a significant look after working together to detain the musician Crufeela. Older confirmed on Twitter that he intended the scene to imply a romantic connection ("shmanging") between Smeemarm and Abrus. While he initially believed the implication was clear, he later acknowledged that some readers found it ambiguous. He made this acknowledgement in a response to fellow Star Wars author Alyssa Wong, referencing a similar situation involving her characters, Chelli Lona Aphra and Domina Tagge.
