Imperial Stormtrooper Forest Camouflage Armor

The battle armor known as Imperial Stormtrooper Forest Camouflage Armor, or its abbreviated form Imperial Forest Camouflage Armor, was employed by the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War. This armor, a product of Imperial Ordinance created after the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, was not standard issue for their forces. A similar type of protective gear was the Imperial Scout Trooper Forest Camouflage Armor.

Description

This battle armor, designated Imperial Stormtrooper Forest Camouflage Armor, was manufactured for the Galactic Empire and bore a strong resemblance to the standard armor worn by Imperial stormtroopers. However, instead of the typical clean white finish, this armor featured a mottled greenish-brown camouflage pattern, enabling effective concealment in forested environments. An orange stormtrooper pauldron was also included as part of the ensemble.

History

Sstrigge wearing parts of Imperial Stormtrooper Forest Camouflage Armor

The Imperial Stormtrooper Forest Camouflage Armor, or Imperial Forest Camouflage Armor for short, was a more recent innovation from Imperial Ordinance that saw limited deployment during the Galactic Civil War after the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY. While not a standard issue item for Imperial troops, a Trandoshan named Sstrigge was observed wearing a significant portion of this armor during Life Day celebrations in the cities of Dearic, Doaba Guerfel, and Wayfar. Sstrigge collaborated with the Empire to disrupt these Life Day events, as the Empire suspected the Alliance to Restore the Republic of utilizing them to conceal contraband within celebratory gifts.

On Naboo, the right bracer of this camouflage armor was discovered next to the skeletal remains of a stormtrooper on the balcony of a large house that had been taken over by Mummers, a criminal organization involved in bootlegging. Additional armor components, including a helmet, chest plate, and gloves from standard white stormtrooper armor, were also found with the body. Another version of this armor, known as Imperial Scout Trooper Forest Camouflage Armor, was also used by the Empire during the Galactic Civil War. This alternative version more closely resembled the armor worn by scout troopers. The Rebel Alliance also utilized their own forest camouflage armor, referred to as Rebel Assault Forest Camouflage Armor.

Behind the scenes

The armor known as Imperial Stormtrooper Forest Camouflage first made its appearance in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game created by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, before its shutdown on December 15, 2011. Initially, this Imperial armor was intended to be the reward for Imperial-aligned players who completed a revised Imperial Theme Park quest line. However, due to negative feedback from some players regarding its perceived aesthetic shortcomings, the developers decided against including it as the player reward.

Later, on September 12, 2007, with the release of Chapter 6.12: Masters of the Wild, a redesigned version of this armor was made available as the reward for completing various quests within the revamped Imperial Theme Park. This new armor, officially named Imperial Scout Trooper Forest Camouflage Armor, more closely resembled scout trooper armor. However, unlike the scout trooper armor, which was classified as reconnaissance armor in Galaxies, the Scout Trooper Forest Camouflage Armor maintained its designation as battle armor.

Even though it wasn't released as a fully wearable set of player armor on the live servers, the developers still integrated elements of the Imperial Stormtrooper Forest Camouflage Armor into the game. With the release of Chapter 11.4: The Battle of Echo Base on December 16, 2008, a Trandoshan character named Sstrigge could be seen wearing the armor's gloves, chest plate, leggings, and belt during the game's Life Day celebrations in the cities of Dearic, Doaba Guerfel, and Wayfar. Sstrigge continued to wear these armor pieces during subsequent Life Day events in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Furthermore, the right bracer from this armor could be found on the balcony of a large house on Naboo that was occupied by a group of Mummers. Interestingly, examining the bracer only identified it as a "standard issue stormtrooper armor right bracer." According to the game's directory tree files, the armor's description stated: "Imperial Stormtrooper Forest Camouflage Armor. A recent development from Imperial Ordinance. Not routinely issued to troops."
