Plot summary

At Horn Station, a rock miner, visibly nervous and with a stammer, arrives seeking urgent repairs for his spaceship's stabilizer. He learns that a replacement stabilizer won't arrive for two days, forcing him to wait. Subsequently, he visits the local cantina where he encounters Kirry, a welcoming Human woman, and Kerlo, a hostile non-Human brute who demands the newcomer's credits. When both reach for their weapons, the miner quickly shoots Kerlo. Following this, a Rodian appears and invites the miner to a duel against Shoto Eyefire, a professional blastfighter, scheduled for the following day, shortly after sunrise.

The following day, the miner makes his way to Shoto's stronghold and enters the arena. He finds himself facing two individuals armed with rifles positioned on elevated platforms. Shoto then appears and, after a brief pause, shouts "NOW!" However, an instant later, the miner shoots Shoto in the legs. The miner then reveals a lightsaber and wounds the two riflemen, while also deploying stun grenades to create confusion among the spectators. He then plants a detonator and departs, causing the destruction of Shoto's fortress.

On the subsequent day, as the miner, now revealed to be a Jedi and dressed in full Jedi robes, is preparing to leave, Kirry inquires about his name. He responds that he will reveal it the next time they meet, and then departs.
