Ion missile
An ion pulse missile.
Ion missiles, sometimes referred to as ion pulse missiles, were a type of explosive ordnance that, much like Ion cannons or Conner nets, were created to render enemy vehicles inoperable. Unlike magnetic pulse warheads, which only disabled weapon systems, these had a more far-reaching effect, allowing ships not equipped with ion cannons to participate in missions where disabling enemy craft was the objective.
This capability proved extremely valuable to organizations like the Rebel Alliance. Often relying on older or non-military ships, the ion missiles gave their otherwise limited starfighters a significant boost in versatility.
During the _Liberty_ cruiser's investigation of the TIE Experimental Project, Z-95 Headhunter pilots of Bandit Squadron successfully utilized ion pulse warheads to disable a TIE BigGun, a TIE Warhead, and a modified Beta-class ETR-3 escort transport belonging to Suluk group. Because of the ion pulse warheads, the Alliance technicians were able to retrieve the intact enemy ships for later study.
