Bandit Squadron constituted a unit of Z-95 Headhunters, actively deployed from the Mon Calamari Star Cruiser known as the Liberty.

Initially, Bandit Squadron was assembled to undertake a specific mission: an investigation into the TIE Experimental Project. Ace Azzameen served as one of the pilots within this squadron.
The mission's need for secrecy dictated that the Alliance's involvement be masked. Consequently, they opted for starfighters less commonly linked to the Rebel forces than the typical X-wings, Y-wings, B-wings, or A-wings. The Z-95 was deemed a suitable choice for this purpose.
Equipped with ion pulse warheads, the Z-95s belonging to Bandit Squadron successfully neutralized a modified Escort transport, along with examples of both a TIE Warhead and a TIE BigGun.
Given the mission's success, both in terms of securing the prototypes and maintaining the Alliance's anonymity, Bandit Squadron was assigned a continuing role as the Liberty's dedicated covert operations unit.
Later, the squadron was instrumental following the destruction of the Rebel supply depot situated on Gal Milnor. With the loss of vital supplies, the Alliance found itself in urgent need of an alternative supply route for its fleet, which was gathering at Sullust just prior to the Battle of Endor. Lando Calrissian provided a list of contacts in the sector, the most influential of which was the entrepreneur and casino owner known as Dunari.

Ace Azzameen, along with his fellow pilots, resumed their roles as members of Bandit Squadron, providing escort for the Muurian transport named Saloon. This vessel transported Alliance delegates to a secret meeting with Dunari aboard his Personal Luxury Yacht 3000, known as the Raw Deal.
The meeting was disrupted by the arrival of the pirate Marauder Corvette Vulture, accompanied by its squadron of Toscan 8-Q starfighters, Fury, and the Y-wing group Pirate.
Bandit Squadron successfully repelled this initial threat, only to face a second interruption when an Imperial patrol, led by the SCT Scout Craft Omicron 023, entered the system. Shortly after, the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Corrupter arrived. The Corrupter launched its own starfighters to attack the docked vessels, forcing the meeting to be hastily concluded. Both Dunari and the Rebel delegates made their escape into hyperspace, with Bandit Squadron providing cover for their retreat.
Subsequently, Alliance analysts determined that Bandit Squadron's utilization of Z-95s had been instrumental in preventing the Empire from uncovering their true identities as Rebel ships.
