An irisophant was a type of being whose bones possessed the durability to resist the powerful claws of the Evereni species. Circa 381 BBY, Marda Ro, who led an Evereni pirate gang, acquired a nail file crafted from irisophant bone. She purchased it from a child running a roadside stall in a settlement located on the planet Dantooine. The purchased file proved sufficiently strong for Marda Ro's nail care. Ro later made note of her acquisition of this file, with a reference to the irisophant origin, within a journal intended as a record for future generations. This journal was inherited by her descendants, Shalla Ro and Marchion Ro, and they listened to the recording by 252 BBY.
The short story "A Closed Fist Has No Claws," penned by Tessa Gratton and included in the 2023 young-adult collection titled The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life, which itself is a component of the larger Star Wars: The High Republic initiative, featured a mention of the irisophant.
