Jack Klaff, a multifaceted talent hailing from South Africa, is known as an academic, actor, director, and writer. Notably, he played the role of John D. Branon in the film A New Hope. Klaff's journey into acting commenced at the Brook Theater located in Johannesburg. Later, in 1976, he relocated to the United Kingdom. By 1978, he had become a member of the esteemed Royal Shakespeare Academy. Beyond his Star Wars appearance, his acting portfolio includes roles in television shows and movies such as For Your Eyes Only, Space: 1999, and Red Dwarf.
For many years, a common misconception among fans was that Klaff delivered the line "That's impossible, even for a computer" spoken by Wedge Antilles during the briefing for the Battle of Yavin. Because Denis Lawson portrayed Wedge in all other scenes, the actor and the character in that particular scene were sometimes called "Fake Wedge". However, Pablo Hidalgo clarified on his blog that Colin Higgins was the actor present in that scene, identifying Higgins as "Fake Wedge".
