Upon being approached by the recruit, Jaynes expressed his delight at seeing a member of Havoc Squad and advised the recruit to seek combat instruction from Forris.

He considered the war on Ord Mantell to be an undesirable situation, but he regarded his assignment at Fort Garnik as one of the better ones on the planet, due to the presence of excellent training instructors. He attributed his survival during the war to the instructors at Fort Garnik, including Lieutenant Forris, whom he made a point of directing new military arrivals to.
Jaynes held Havoc Squad in high regard and was pleased to encounter one of their members in the field at Fort Garnik.
