WJ-880 blinding helmet
WJ-880 blinding helmets, alternatively referred to as Jedi youngling helmets or simply youngling helmets, were a specific kind of gray designed helmet utilized by younglings of the Jedi Order during their training. These were sizable, dome-shaped helmets designed to obscure the eyes of the wearer, thereby inhibiting their sight and compelling them to rely on the Force instead of their physical senses. Back in 22 BBY, the younglings of Bear Clan donned Jedi youngling helmets during their training exercises, where they practiced deflecting blaster fire with training lightsabers under the watchful eye of Grand Master Yoda within the Jedi Temple situated on the planet Coruscant.
Behind the scenes
The initial appearance of Jedi youngling helmets was in the 2002 motion picture Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, which was the second movie of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Their identification occurred in the 2017 reference guide, Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia. The design of the prop featured in the Obi-Wan Kenobi television show was modeled after the helmets that the younglings wore in the prequel films.
