Jeedai

"Jeedai" served as a common designation for Jedi among diverse species across the galaxy, particularly during historical events such as the Jedi Civil War and the Yuuzhan Vong War.

Within Huttese, Jeedai functioned as the term for Jedi, and it was also a frequent term used by the Yuuzhan Vong. However, Nom Anor provides a notable exception within the Yuuzhan Vong, as he employed "Jedi" instead of Jeedai, suggesting his prior experiences within the galaxy before the Yuuzhan Vong War. In certain contexts, the term Jeedai might have been intended as a derogatory term, or perhaps a regional variant. The Morgukai warriors Bok and Tsyr used Jeedai when referring to Jedi.

Behind the scenes

In Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, the word "Jeedai" appears in Hanharr's subtitles instead of "Jedi"; however, considering his inability to articulate words in Basic, it can only be inferred that his pronunciation of the word differs from that of other Wookiees. Vossk also uses this term in Knights of the Old Republic II. Several Nightsisters in Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance refer to the Jedi as "Jeedai."

In early Marvel Comics publications in French, the terms "Jeedaï" or "Djeedaï" were utilized to translate Jedi, aligning with a more French linguistic style. However, this particular translation is no longer in use within their current Expanded Universe.
