Jekk'Jekk Tarr

The Jekk'Jekk Tarr was a drinking establishment situated inside the Nar Shaddaa docks of Nar Shaddaa. It pumped out cyanogen fumes, along with a collection of other contaminants, that proved deadly to both Humans and Nikto. However, these fumes were commonplace, and often even preferred, by numerous other alien species. Before becoming a cantina, it functioned as a ventilation system, channeling nagnol gases to the docks. It was deliberately created as a sanctuary for more unusual galactic species, its unique atmosphere acting as a natural barrier against unwanted guests. Instead of traditional alcoholic beverages, the bar served "nutrient chemicals" to its patrons, who willingly paid substantial amounts of credits for the experience.

Layout

The Jekk'Jekk Tarr was sectioned off into five distinct areas, each bathed in a different colored light to mimic a specific environment. Upon entry, customers found themselves in the infrared chamber, illuminated by a red glow. This space was popular among species capable of perceiving infrared light, such as Devaronians and Trandoshans. Adjoining the infrared chamber to the west was the yellow, arid room, designed to replicate the harsh conditions of planets like Ryloth and Sriluur. Consequently, this area was frequently occupied by both Twi'leks and Weequays. To the east of the infrared chamber lay a green room filled with particularly toxic gases. A second toxin-filled room was located to the north, and both of these areas were almost exclusively used by the insectoid Gand. It's probable that the gas in these two rooms was ammonia, originating from their homeworld of Gand. The fifth chamber was non-toxic, devoid of any harmful fumes, even for Humans. This private lounge was reserved for the Quarren Exchange crime boss Visquis, and access was restricted to him and his servants alone. Within his lounge was the entrance to his clandestine headquarters, featuring a dimly lit maze filled with deadly gases and a jamming system designed to render datapad maps useless.

History

The Exchange crime lord Visquis frequently utilized the bar for clandestine dealings he wished to conceal from Goto, having discovered, by chance, that Goto was unable to monitor events occurring within the Jekk'Jekk Tarr due to droids malfunctioning inside. During her stay on the moon in 3951 BBY, the Jedi Exile was lured to this location by Visquis in an attempt to claim the Exchange's substantial bounty on Jedi. She managed to survive the perilous environment by using the Force, employing the power of breath control to conserve oxygen and prevent the inhalation of the toxic gases. Upon realizing that the gas had no effect on her, Visquis ordered the bounty hunters and other patrons present to attack her, promising a significant reward to whoever could defeat her. She faced attacks from a Devaronian bartender and a Twi'lek majordomo, among others, before eventually reaching Visquis's private chamber. During the conflict, she persuaded the Lunar Shadow's captain to rejoin his crew before continuing her pursuit through the tunnels beneath the cantina and into Visquis's secret base. Upon returning at a later date, the Exile discovered that the Jekk'Jekk Tarr had been shut down.

Behind the scenes

The Jekk'Jekk Tarr makes its debut appearance in the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. The cantina and the base located beneath it were originally planned to be one of the hideouts for the secretive bounty hunter organization known as the GenoHaradan. However, this concept was removed from the final version of the game, and the base became the stronghold of Visquis's faction within the Exchange.

The player has the option to enter the Jekk'Jekk Tarr without wearing a spacesuit prior to the activation of the quest to rescue Mira, without any negative effects on the Exile's health, as long as she is equipped with a gas mask. If this is done, she can communicate with the Lunar Shadow's captain before the bar's patrons turn hostile. The Exile also has the ability to recruit Odis to become the new captain of the Lunar Shadow's crew before entering the cantina. Regardless, the previous captain cannot be killed and remains the only patron to stay neutral throughout the confrontation. Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, the only source in which the Jekk'Jekk Tarr is featured to date, contains a misspelling of the cantina's name as Jek'Jek Tarr once, within the Music list accessible from the game's menu.
