Biography

After his Force-sensitive abilities were identified in his early years, Ji'Ad Sarain was brought to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant as an infant. At the Temple's academy, he received training in the ways of the Force. Sarain graduating from the academy and was chosen by a Jedi Master to become their Padawan. After completing his training, he successfully passed his Trials of Knighthood and was elevated to the rank of Jedi Knight. Sarain, operating from the Coruscant Temple and under the direction of the Jedi High Council, willingly undertook any assignment given to him.

Around 47 BBY, the High Council sent Sarain to the Cularin system on a clandestine mission: to infiltrate the slaving operation run by Riboga the Hutt. Sarain went undercover as a mercenary, concealing his Jedi identity even from the Almas Academy, the local Jedi academy in the system. Having infiltrated Riboga's organization, Sarain planned to contact the Almas Academy for extraction once he had organized a group of slaves for escape. However, during the escape, Sarain's cover was blown, and he was captured by Gomalo, a Rodian, who imprisoned the Jedi in carbonite. Sarain survived, but he was loaded onto Gomalo's transport as the slaving compound was evacuated due to fears of a Jedi raid. Although the Jedi intercepted Gomalo's ship in orbit, the Rodian managed to escape into hyperspace, but his ship sustained damage.

The Jedi believed Sarain had died in the conflict, but he had actually been dumped in a nebula near the planet Cularin. Gomalo was eventually apprehended, but he had recorded the coordinates of the Jedi's carbonite-encased body in a bas-relief that was seized by his captors. The sculpture was sold at auction, passing through several owners before ending up with a Tynnan couple, Nog Teleus and his wife, Cham. They prepared the artwork for an exhibition commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Cularin Compact, where it would be displayed to the public. During the exhibition, Gomalo, who had escaped, stole the artwork in an attempt to reach the nebula and recover Sarain's body. However, Ezra Du'Re, a freelance agent, apprehended Gomalo again and recovered Sarain. Du'Re transported the carbonite-frozen Jedi to Almas, where he was thawed out at the Academy and underwent rehabilitation at the Halls of Healing in the Coruscant Temple.
