Kai's first lightsaber
Kai's lightsaber, alternatively referred to as Kai's first lightsaber, functioned as a training lightsaber. It was used by Jedi Initiate Kai Brightstar during the era known as the High Republic Era.
In approximately 233 BBY, Jedi Master Yoda dispatched Brightstar on a particular assignment. During this mission, the pirate Taborr Val Dorn stole the lightsaber. Subsequently, Kai obtained a replacement lightsaber, which was a gift from Yoda.
Behind the scenes
The initial appearance of Kai's lightsaber was in Young Jedi Adventures: Jedi Training. This children's book was authored by Caitlin Kennedy and released on May 2, 2023. The lightsaber's existence was initially revealed in a StarWars.com article titled "Begin Your Younglings' Training with Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures Books – First Look." A visual representation of the lightsaber first surfaced in another article, "Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures Release Date and Cast Revealed," and also in an episode of This Week! in Star Wars. Both the articles and the episode of This Week! were made available on February 9, 2023. It was later identified as "Brightstar's saber" in the article, "Meet the Young Jedi: Stars Jamaal Avery Jr. and Juliet Donenfeld on Making Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures," which was published on May 19, 2023.
