Kampe

A planet in the Deep Core region, Kampe possessed a Type II atmosphere coupled with an arid environment. In 12 ABY, Superior General Sander Delvardus, a warlord serving the Galactic Empire, controlled a fortress situated within Kampe's complex canyon systems. The world in the Deep Core had a sparse armed presence, primarily because the vast majority of the warlord's funds were being directed towards the construction of the Super Star Destroyer Night Hammer elsewhere in the system.

Admiral [Natasi Daala](/article/natasi_daala], after killing Delvardus to achieve the unification of the remaining Imperial forces, journeyed with her fleet to Kampe to investigate the object of the deceased warlord's financial investments. At the fortress, the admiral convinced Ivan Cronus, Delvardus's second-in-command, to align with her faction, who then disclosed the existence of the Night Hammer.

Description

Located in the Deep Core within the Kampe system, Kampe was a relatively small planet. The planet's orbit around its star was at the outer boundary of the habitable zone, resulting in a gravity that was weaker than standard.

The Type II atmosphere of Kampe exhibited a pale green hue. Despite the air being thin enough to make breathing uncomfortable without a breath mask for members of the Human species, cold and arid winds were still a common occurrence on this Deep Core world.

Long ago, floods had shaped the surface of Kampe, but by 12 ABY these waters had vanished, leaving behind a network of complex canyons. By that time, Kampe had become an arid landscape of desolate rocks and rusty sands, with cracked and fissured surfaces resembling a system of veins.

History

Superior General Sander Delvardus maintained a fortress on Kampe.

The self-proclaimed Superior General Sander Delvardus experienced the loss of the Eriadu Authority—his own breakaway faction from the Galactic Empire—in 5 ABY due to a series of assaults by the New Republic military, and as a result, he moved his remaining forces to the Deep Core. Delvardus chose Kampe as his capital, where he controlled a fortress within one of the planet's canyons, engaging in a prolonged conflict with other Imperial warlords in the Deep Core region.

Admiral Natasi Daala executed Delvardus and twelve other warlords seven years later at the Tsoss Beacon planetoid following a failed conference intended to unify the fractured remnants of the Empire. Having discovered the secret location of Delvardus's fortress from the files of one of his adversaries and intrigued by the former Superior General's claims of substantial military expenditures, Daala led her newly assembled fleet of Star Destroyers to Kampe.

Upon arrival, the admiral, along with her second-in-command, Vice Admiral Gilad Pellaeon, accompanied by a squadron of Gamma assault shuttles and a contingent of stormtroopers, traversed the planet's surface to reach Delvardus's fortress. Standing before the structure's entrance, Daala proposed to Colonel Ivan Cronus, the officer in charge of the former warlord's fortress, that he join her forces, providing him with a recording of the Tsoss Beacon conference and Delvardus's body, preserved within a force field. After an hour of deliberation, Cronus consented to join Daala's faction and subsequently escorted her and Pellaeon to the edge of the Kampe system to reveal the project upon which Delvardus had invested all his credits—the Super Star Destroyer Night Hammer.

Inhabitants

By the time of Admiral Natasi Daala's visit to Kampe, the planet was almost entirely devoid of any armed presence, as nearly all of Superior General Delvardus's financial resources had been allocated to the construction of the warship Night Hammer, which was stationed at the outer reaches of the Kampe system. However, Delvardus's fortress did house a group of armed soldiers under the command of Colonel Ivan Cronus.

Locations

Sander Delvardus maintained a fortress in a concealed area within one of Kampe's canyons. The structure possessed a formidable facade and stone doors that were five times the height of an adult Human. The fortress included hangars on its grounds, with at least one armored fast transport being stored there. Nevertheless, Admiral Daala was unimpressed by Delvardus's fortress, considering his reported extensive military spending.

Behind the scenes

The planet utilized as headquarters by Superior General Delvardus remained unnamed during its initial appearance in Darksaber, a 1995 novel authored by Kevin J. Anderson. The 2012 reference book The Essential Reader's Companion was the first to identify Kampe and situated it within grid square L-11.
