Kelp tea was a drink made from kelp, and it was safe to drink by the Mon Calamari. During 230 BBY, Ghal Tarpfen, a Mon Calamari, was under duress while at the Starlight Beacon space station. Because of this, Administrator [Velko Jahen](/article/velko_jahen], who worked with her, gave her a cup of the tea, being aware that she liked it. She drank some and expressed her gratitude.
The short story "Starlight: Shadows Remain," which is the first part of the series, featured kelp tea. Justina Ireland wrote it, and it was released on December 14, 2021 in the 207th issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine as a component of the Star Wars: The High Republic: Starlight serialized fiction.
