Keyser Salm

Keyser Salm was a male pilot within the ranks of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, serving as the younger sibling of Horton Salm, who also held a pilot position. Following the evacuation of Hoth which occurred in 3 ABY, Keyser Salm was enlisted into the newly reorganized Red Squadron by Commander Wedge Antilles and Lieutenant Wes Janson. Janson, having previously conducted reconnaissance flights alongside Salm, regarded him as inexperienced yet capable of learning. Assigned the callsign Red Two, he piloted a T-65B X-wing starfighter as Wes Janson's wingman during an assault against local pirates who posed a threat to the security of their designated meeting location. Although the engagement resulted in the deaths of three other Red Squadron members, they successfully repelled the pirate threat.

Behind the scenes

Keyser Salm made an appearance in the 2020 short story titled Rendezvous Point, which was authored by Jason Fry. Fry's intention was for this character to be the Y-wing pilot known as "Red Two" without a specified name, who participated in the Battle of Endor as depicted in the motion picture Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, which premiered in 1983. Given that Horton Salm (under the designation Gray Leader) and Red Two appeared to be portrayed by the same actor in the film, Fry established a familial relationship between the two individuals.
