Kile II

Kile II, a planet of terrestrial nature and geological instability, was located within the Outer Rim's Jospro sector, according to Legends continuity. The Galactic Empire established multiple facilities inside its canyons, notably a sensor array and the spaceport known as Enclave, a massive complex supporting Imperial naval activities in that sector. A battle occurred on the planet during the Galactic Civil War between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance, with the latter emerging victorious.

Description

This geologically active terrestrial planet, Kile II, was the second planet from its star in the Kile system, situated in the Jospro sector, which itself was part of the Slice within the Outer Rim Territories. The Salin Corridor hyperlane connected it to the Dernatine and Sy Myrth systems. Kile II's atmosphere was breathable, and its surface was characterized by canyons.

History

The sensor array was one of a number of Imperial installations within Kile II's canyons.

Canyons were formed after waters evaporated from a portion of Kile II's surface. During its reign, the Galactic Empire established a presence on Kile II, constructing a huge spaceport named the Enclave, a sensor array, and several other facilities, while also maintaining numerous garrisons inside the canyons. In the period between 0.5 ABY and 3 ABY, during the Galactic Civil War, the Rebel Alliance, acting on intelligence from Imperial defector Kasan Moor, sent Rogue Squadron to the planet to attack the spaceport and sensor array, aiming to disrupt Imperial naval operations in the Jospro sector.

Rogue Squadron, flying Y-wing starfighters, successfully navigated the canyons and destroyed the sensor array along with its defenses. After defeating the garrisons, the squadron tracked an Imperial shuttle to the Enclave, which they then destroyed along with all defending Imperials. In the end, all Imperial installations on Kile II were obliterated.

During the raid, Wedge Antilles' Y-wing, a pilot in Rogue Squadron, sustained heavy damage from TIE Interceptors, forcing him to crash land. The Imperials captured him and transported him to the prison planet Kessel.

Inhabitants

Prior to the attack on Kile II, Imperial forces, including numerous stormtroopers, were stationed within the canyons.

Locations

The canyons of Kile II contained multiple Imperial installations, including the Enclave, which served as the primary base for naval operations in the sector, and a sensor array, intended to detect approaching Rebel forces before they could get within striking distance. Defenses for these installations included XX-9 heavy turbolasers and missile turrets.

Behind the scenes

Kile II made its first appearance in Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, a 1998 video game developed by Factor 5, where it served as the setting for the eighth mission, titled "Assault on Kile II." The Essential Atlas, a reference book from 2009, placed the Kile system, and consequently Kile II, in grid square S-7.
