Korto Vos

Korto Vos, a Human-Kiffar hybrid male possessing Force-sensitivity, entered the world on Kashyyyk, a planet. His birth occurred less than eight months following the Clone Wars' end in 19 BBY. Khaleen Hentz, his mother and a Human spy, sought refuge on the Wookiee homeworld. This was after Jedi throughout the galaxy, including his father, the Kiffar Jedi Master Quinlan Vos, became targets of a death plot orchestrated by the Republic's Supreme Chancellor to gain control of the galaxy. However, Quinlan survived the Great Jedi Purge and found his way to Kashyyyk, where Vos, Hentz, and two other Jedi Masters were residing under the protection of the Palsaang Wookiee clan. Upon meeting his young son, the father applied traditional Kiffar qukuuf tattoos to his face, declaring he would remain untouched by the influence of the dark side of the Force.

Biography

Quinlan Vos, a Kiffar male Jedi Master, and Khaleen Hentz, a Human female spy, were the parents of Korto Vos. In 19 BBY, during the concluding weeks of the Clone Wars on the planet Saleucami, their physical union resulted in his conception. While the young Vos was developing in his mother's womb, Hentz went into hiding. Across the galaxy, clone troopers belonging to the Grand Army of the Republic murdered their Jedi Generals as part of a scheme by Palpatine, the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, to annihilate the Jedi Order and take control of the galaxy. Believing Quinlan to be deceased, Hentz heeded his previous advice and escaped to the planet Kashyyyk with Tholme and T'ra Saa, Jedi Masters who opposed the newly formed Galactic Empire.

The Palsaang clan of Wookiees provided them refuge, and Hentz gave birth to the young Vos while residing on the Wookiee homeworld. Vos began his life as a fair-skinned Human/Kiffar hybrid with brown-eyed, black-haired features who, like his father, possessed sensitivity to the Force. He was born into Clan Vos, a family who had until recently ruled the twin planets of Kiffex and Kiffu. A playful boy, Vos enjoyed grabbing at dangling objects. His full name, "Korto Vos," had been an alias previously used by Quinlan on several undercover missions during the war.

Eight months following the Chancellor's betrayal of the Jedi and the end of the war, Vos, his mother, and their Jedi companions were in a cave, protected by Gumbaeki, the leader of the Palsaang clan. The young Wookiee Chak was playing with Vos while the others activated a holocron of Quinlan's that they had discovered on-world. Quinlan was in fact alive and well, and he arrived at the cave as they listened, accompanied by the Devaronian smuggler Vilmarh Grahrk. Eight months prior, Grahrk had kept a gravely injured Quinlan safe from traitorous clone troopers, and the Devaronian had later nursed him back to health. In the cave, Quinlan met his new son for the first time and immediately applied traditional Kiffar qukuuf tattoos to Vos's face. He then proclaimed that his son's destiny was his own, but that Vos would nevertheless be kept safe from the touch of the dark side of the Force.

Behind the scenes

John Ostrander and Jan Duursema, a collaborative author-artist team responsible for several issues of the Star Wars: Republic comic series, conceived Korto Vos. His mother's pregnancy was initially mentioned in the series' seventy-seventh issue, which was released in 2005. His first appearance outside of her womb occurred in the eighty-third and final issue, published in 2006. Since then, The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia from 2008 represents the only other mention of Vos within Star Wars canon.
