Chak (Wookiee)

Cha'ka, later known as Chak, was a Wookiee smuggler who lived a very long time, from the decline of the Galactic Republic until the Galactic Empire came back into power following the Sith–Imperial War.

Biography

Chak as a Wookiee youngling during the Clone Wars

Gumbaeki, who was the elder of Palsaang village on Kashyyyk, was Chak's grandparent. Trandoshan slavers targeted this village, using the Battle of Kashyyyk as a cover. During this period, the smuggler Vilmarh Grahrk, whom Chak affectionately called "Uncle Villie," resided in the village, illicitly transporting goods to and from the Wookiee homeworld. For approximately a year, while Grahrk was with them, the young Chak served as the co-pilot of Grahrk's ship, known as the Inferno. Additionally, he apprenticed within the Claatuvac Guild.

After Order 66 was issued, Chak aided Quinlan Vos, an old acquaintance of Grahrk, in surviving an attack by his own troops within the jungles of Kashyyyk. He was responsible for killing Bogey 1212 and Bogey 9662, who were both members of Bogey Squad.

Chak was present during the Battle of Kashyyyk and subsequently escaped Imperial enslavement by going into hiding in remote parts of the galaxy.

About one and a half centuries later, around the year 137 ABY, Chak had grown into an adult and was the captain of a smuggling vessel named the Grinning Liar. He was known to be a loyal friend, particularly to people like the former Jedi Cade Skywalker, but it was unwise to become his enemy.

Much like Cade, he and his co-pilot Kee were often spotted at Rik's Cantina located on Coruscant. It was in this establishment that the two discovered Cade. It was revealed that Cade's former crew members, Jariah Syn and Deliah Blue, had previously chartered the Grinning Liar, but they failed to return the vessel. Kee and Chak learned that Cade was unaware of the ship's whereabouts, though Skywalker promised to inform his friends that they were being sought after. Chak was displeased with this response.

Later, Chak located Blue and Syn. He demanded the return of the Grinning Liar, but Syn stated that Rav had taken it a while ago. However, as an argument began, an Imperial agent called Morrigan Corde approached them. She told them that she was Cade's mother, and needed their help to rescue him from the Sith Temple. Chak agreed to the offer. Subsequently, Chak was convinced to purchase the Mynock to aid in the rescue operation (records of Chak purchasing the Mynock would throw the Imperials off the track). The rescue was successful, and Chak piloted the ship away from Coruscant after Cade boarded.

Following the rescue, Chak, along with Cade, Syn, and Kee, pursued Rav to reclaim the Grinning Liar. After Cade and his companions defeated Rav's thugs, Rav was forced to surrender the ship. Chak mentioned that he intended to disappear into the galaxy after getting his ship back, and he advised Cade to do the same.

Chak carried a hunting blaster carbine.
