Liberation of Gerrard V

title: Liberation of Gerrard V

During the Galactic Civil War, the planet Gerrard V achieved liberation from the control of the Galactic Empire in an event known as the Liberation of Gerrard V, which took place in 1 ABY. This event unfolded after the local Imperial governor ordered the city to be plundered, fearing a revolt from the inhabitants of Gerrard V against the Empire's dominance. The Rebel Alliance swiftly bolstered the insurgents, deploying the starfighter squadrons Rogue Squadron and Gold Squadron to disable the escaping yachts and eliminate the turbolaser defense network protecting the capital.

In the midst of the conflict, Kasan Moor, who commanded the 128th TIE Interceptor Squadron, surrendered to Gold Squadron and proposed joining the Rebellion. The remaining Imperial forces were soon scattered following her surrender, resulting in the planet's liberation from Imperial control. The battle became the first in a series of triumphs against the Galactic Empire, largely due to Moor's subsequent assistance.

Prelude

Two years prior, an unsuccessful uprising had occurred against the Empire. In response to the initial revolt, the Empire bombarded the planet's surface from an orbiting fleet. This bombardment left much of the planet's surface devastated, and the ecosystem suffered significant damage. The population remained under Imperial rule until 1 ABY, when they had sufficiently recovered to launch another rebellion.

Believing that the people of Gerrard V were amassing resources for an attack, the local governor dispatched a squadron of SoroSuub Personal Luxury Yacht 3000 transports to seize military supplies and other valuables from the planet before its inevitable loss. As the insurgents' resources diminished, their leader sent an urgent plea for assistance to the Rebel Alliance, requesting reinforcements.

The liberation

General Crix Madine of the Rebel Alliance, who had recently defected from the Galactic Empire, received the distress call. He responded by dispatching Gold Squadron to support the insurgents and disable the fleeing Imperial yachts. He also assigned Rogue Squadron, the same unit led by Luke Skywalker that rescued him from Imperial custody on Corellia, as backup.

As they approached the capital city, the turbolasers positioned around the city, which had been used to maintain order, opened fire on the advancing Rebels. Rogue Squadron provided covering fire, directing their attacks towards these cannons. After all the turbolasers were destroyed, a group of seven AT-PT walkers moved into the city, taking positions on the hillsides, but Rogue Squadron easily dealt with them. Gold Squadron completed their ion cannon runs on the yachts and prepared to move to the next area.

Suddenly, the 128th TIE Interceptor Squadron, under the command of Lieutenant Kasan Moor, emerged from over the sea and attacked the insurgents. Despite the sudden arrival of enemy forces, Gold Squadron pressed on with their mission, flying into the midst of the battle. Rogue Squadron destroyed the turbolaser tower overlooking the city, and the last of the yachts were disabled. Kasan Moor was pursued and harassed by a Gold Squadron pilot, who used an ion cannon to disable her control systems. Moor surrendered and offered to defect to the Rebellion. In the end, at least 33 Imperials were killed during the engagement.

Aftermath

Gold Squadron's objective was achieved, and the city's stolen supplies were recovered. Gerrard V successfully broke free from Imperial control. True to her word, Kasan Moor defected and joined Rogue Squadron as a pilot. Her extensive knowledge of Imperial outposts proved invaluable, leading the Alliance to a series of victories. Shortly after the battle, she guided the rebels to a supply depot located on the Jade Moon.
