Lightning Guard on Chelloa During the era of the New Sith Wars, the Lightning Guard functioned as a military organization under the command of the Sith Lord known as Odion. This unit had a reputation for exhibiting near-suicidal tendencies when engaging enemy forces. They were recognized by their grey armor, along with their use of jetpacks and blaster rifles. The ranks of the Guard included various species, among them Humans and Bith. A distinctive characteristic was that, unlike other soldiers in Odion's army, they did not wear helmets, leaving their heads exposed.
In 1032 BBY, the entire Lightning Guard was committed to the ground invasion of the planet Chelloa. Odion personally spearheaded the assault, deploying hundreds of jetpack-equipped guardsmen to overwhelm Daiman's forces in the vicinity of the spaceport at Jenith. However, Daiman's Mobile munitions complexes were revealed to be Kinetic corruptors, which were then employed to ignite the underground baradium deposits, resulting in a magma eruption that consumed Odion's soldiers. The surviving members of the Lightning Guard attempted to escape aboard the Freedom Fleet's transports, but were prevented from doing so by the Jedi Knights Kerra Holt and Gorlan Palladane. Those trapped below perished in the magma. The annihilation of the Lightning Guard filled Odion with rage, and he vowed to exact revenge upon both Daiman and Kerra.
The initial reference to the Lightning Guard occurred in Knight Errant: Aflame 3, which was released on December 8, 2010. Their first actual appearance took place in Knight Errant: Aflame 5, which was released on February 16, 2011. Despite being depicted with jetpacks in the opening scene of Knight Errant 5, they are not shown with jetpacks by the comic's conclusion.
