Lioaoin Regime

The Lioaoin Regime, also referred to as the Lioaoin government, constituted a nation operating within the Unknown Regions, notably within the expanse of Lioaoin space.

History

Acquisition of a Garwian World

In the early stages of Lioaoin history, they successfully seized control of an outer world belonging to the Garwian Unity.

Instigating Conflict with the Chiss and Garwians

The establishment of the Lioaoin Regime took place in the Unknown Regions. Navigating this region via hyperspace presented significant challenges, compelling the Regime to rely on navigators from the Navigators' Guild, particularly the Void Guide contingent. The Regime frequently engaged in skirmishes with other emergent nations within the Unknown Regions and maintained a state of constant tension with the Chiss Ascendancy.

As their economy deteriorated, the Regime resorted to piracy as a means of sustenance. This led to months of raids on the Chiss systems of Pesfavri, Schesa, and Massoss. This brought them into direct conflict with Junior Commander Thrawn. Thrawn eventually determined that the pirate vessels were, in reality, Lioaoin ships operating with state-sanctioned approval, despite official denials from the Regime. Subsequently, Thrawn enlisted the services of Pathfinder Qilori of Uandualon and journeyed to the Lioaoin heartworld. Junior Commander transmitted a message on an open channel in a trade language understood by the Lioaoi, confirming the discovery of the pirates and instructing a second Chiss ship to report back to the Ascendancy. As Thrawn executed his escape, three Lioaoin pirate corsairs initiated a pursuit, attempting to ensnare Thrawn. However, Thrawn successfully evaded them and proceeded to the Chiss Kinoss system. Four Lioaoin corsairs, aided by their own Pathfinders, managed to track Thrawn to Kinoss (Pathfinder navigators possessed the ability to follow each other through hyperspace). Upon their arrival, a Chiss warship, under the command of Mid Captain Irizi'ar'alani (Ziara), materialized and swiftly destroyed the pirate ships. This brief encounter marked the commencement of the Chiss Lioaoin pirate campaigns. Later on, Lioaoin pirates launched an assault on the nearby Garwian Unity colony world of Stivic (specifically, a merchant-hub station in orbit). However, during the course of the engagement, the Chiss patrol cruiser Parala arrived. Garwian Security Officer Frangelic had dispatched a distress signal, and Thrawn (having been promoted to Senior Commander), who was temporarily in command of the Parala, responded. During the battle, the Garwians abruptly altered their tactics, executing a corkscrew maneuver that exposed the ventral sides of the Lioaoin ships to the Garwians (the Lioaoi overcompensated in response to the Garwian corkscrew maneuver). As a consequence of this exposure, the Garwians were able to inflict substantial damage on three of the four Lioaoin ships. The fourth Lioaoi pirate vessel managed to escape into hyperspace. Thrawn had covertly transmitted an encoded message to the Garwians, providing detailed information on Lioaoi strategies and countermeasures.

Encouraged by the Lioaoin attack, the Garwian Unity initiated a new campaign of conquest within Lioaoin space, with the objective of reclaiming their lost world and potentially expanding their dominion to encompass Lioaoin worlds. Experiencing setbacks, the Lioaoi dispatched two diplomatic ships to Solitair to negotiate the Regime's surrender. However, upon reaching Solitair, they were immediately subjected to an attack by the Garwians. The Garwians sought to elicit further tactical insights from Thrawn, who was present on Solitair, regarding the Lioaoi to facilitate their conquests. Ultimately, this renewed conflict between the Lioaoi and the Garwians reached its conclusion.

Nikardun conquests

Years later, during the Clone Wars, a new menace surfaced in the Unknown Regions. A formidable empire known as the Nikardun Destiny, led by General Yiv the Benevolent, subjugated numerous smaller, fragmented nations. They secretly forged an alliance with the Lioaoin Regime to undermine the Ascendency. The Nikardun provided the Lioaoin military with training in advanced tactics and issued standing orders to engage any vessel carrying Thrawn. During this period, a Lioaoin ship had deployed a net formation with the intention of capturing the Chiss Vigilant Nightdragon man-of-war upon its arrival at the Tower Dimension capital world of Urch. After successfully escaping this trap, the Vigilant proceeded to the Lioaoin heartworld to demand explanations from the Lioaoin Regime. In response, the Regime asserted its non-involvement. At the time, a Nikardun Battle Dreadnought was stationed on the planet but refrained from any overt acts of aggression. Thrawn, temporarily assigned to the Vigilant, engaged in direct communication with Lioaoin diplomats, revealing his identity. Seven Lioaoin gunboats promptly reacted to the mention of his name, thereby disclosing their standing orders to the Chiss. However, their Nikardun commanders immediately instructed them to resume their formation, aiming to project a non-threatening image.

The Vigilant subsequently arrived at the Vak Combine homeworld of Primea to retrieve Thrawn (who had been engaged in an undercover operation there). Yiv had become aware of Thrawn's presence on Primea and sought to capture or eliminate him. His attempt to do so was thwarted, as Thrawn had anticipated his intentions. Yiv, cognizant of Thrawn's continued presence on the planet, prepared for a Chiss extraction mission. He directed four Lioaoi warships to intercept and attack any Chiss vessels arriving at Primea. When the Vigilant eventually arrived to extract Thrawn, these Lioaoin warships appeared and ordered the Vigilant to depart from the system. After the Vigilant attempted to clarify their situation, the Lioaoi opened fire upon them. The Vigilant, recognizing its limited firepower, immediately attempted to withdraw from the system. Thrawn, having commandeered a Vak patrol craft, attacked and destroyed the weapon emplacements of the outermost Lioaoin ship, thereby providing the Vigilant with the necessary time to secure Thrawn and escape the system.

In retaliation for the Lioaoin attack, the Chiss Ascendancy dispatched the Vigilant and Thrawn's Springhawk to the Lioaoin heartworld for a retaliatory strike. Ar'alani attempted to establish communication with the Lioaoi, but the Nikardun forces stationed on the heartworld forbade them from engaging with the Chiss. Upon observing the presence of only two Chiss ships, all twelve Lioaoin warships present began to converge upon the Springhawk as a warning. The Lioaoi refrained from committing all of their forces to confront the Chiss, fearing the potential arrival of additional Chiss reinforcements. Consequently, they deployed only four warships in a diamond attack formation to engage the Chiss. The remaining eight ships assumed a defensive high orbit. The Vigilant launched one of its shuttles towards the four attackers, but the Lioaoi managed to seize control of the shuttle's trajectory using their own tractor beams. They directed the shuttle on a course that would take it through the center of their formation, but the Chiss anticipated this maneuver and fired upon the shuttle as it traversed the formation. As the shuttle detonated, four breacher missiles were launched towards and impacted the four Lioaoin ships. A second shuttle, which had followed the first, was detonated by the Chiss, revealing four additional breacher missiles. The ensuing chaos disrupted the formation of the four Lioaoin attackers, prompting two more Lioaoin warships to join the fray. However, the Chiss ultimately secured victory.
