LN-73 functioned as a protocol droid serving Hesk Beldross, a Thaereian investor with ties to Hutt droid manufacturers, during the closing years of the Galactic Republic.
Beldross dispatched LN-73B to the moon Uffel, located within the Cularin system, with the mission of acquiring several droids. However, the droid became marooned in orbit around the moon. Roughly 50 years later, around 32 BBY, a debris storm finally caused LN-73 to crash onto the surface. By this point, its owner had likely died a long time ago, yet the droid continued to pursue its directives. It was unaware of this fact, and its circuits had likely suffered significant degradation.
Once on the surface, LN-73 successfully enlisted visiting tourists Nia Reston, San Herrera, Philinda and Nikolo, along with their guide, Tret, to aid in its efforts to seize control of the droid production plant. To gain their support, LN-73 falsely asserted that HG-211, Uffel's security chief, had become corrupt. It further fabricated a story claiming that the Heroes of Cularin were attempting to sabotage the factory, leading the tourists to attack them.
LN-73's weaponry consists of a simple ion blaster and vibro-hand, but its disguise is flawless - it blends in perfectly among droids. It also possesses the ability to reprogram entire buildings, a remarkably useful asset in its takeover of the Uffel facility. LN-73 was also outfitted with shields and a self-destruct mechanism, along with enhanced sensors and fluency in languages such as Basic, Caarite, Bothan, Sullustan and Tarasinese.
