Lop, who was adopted into the Yasaburō clan, belonged to a subspecies within the broader Lepi species. These individuals differed from other Lepi, typically being of a smaller stature and possessing eyes that could be [blue](/article/color], along with hair in shades of brown, black, gray, or white.
The subspecies of Lop was initially introduced in the Star Wars: Visions short film titled "Lop & Ochō." Sayawaka penned the script, while Yuki Igarashi took on the role of director. Geno Studio handled the animation production, and the short was made available on Disney+ starting September 22, 2021. During the character design phase, Igarashi sought to create a rabbit character and consulted mechanical designer IZOMOJUKI. IZOMOJUKI then mentioned Lepus carnivorus, specifically Jaxxon. Considering Jaxxon's height of two meters in contrast to Lop's diminutive size, Igarashi conceptualized Lop as originating from a smaller variant of Lepus carnivorus.
