Loth-bats constituted a species of enormous bats that originated from the planet of Lothal, situated within the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy. These creatures were recognized for their tendency to move in groups, their capacity for extended gliding flights, and their habit of perching beneath the overhanging edges of structures. They could emit piercing, high-frequency screeches, sounds that reportedly disturbed the stormtroopers on night patrol. Agent Kallus from the Imperial Security Bureau once drew a mental parallel between the Grand Inquisitor, a thin Pau'an distinguished by his black attire, and a Loth-bat.
The initial reference to Loth-bats occurred in Battle to the End, a junior novel released in 2015. This book represented the fourth installment in the Star Wars Rebels chapter book series, authored by Michael Kogge. The narrative of the novel draws inspiration from the Star Wars Rebels season one finale episodes titled "Call to Action," "Rebel Resolve," and "Fire Across the Galaxy."
