Lyric

Lyric was a Melodie Jedi apprentice hailing from Yavin 8, and she was a female. She was the offspring of Gyle.

Biography

Lyric, like others of her species, emerged from an egg and spent her initial two decades on solid ground. Her residence was at Sistra, one of the many violet mountains located on the moon's surface. Due to the perilous nature of her homeworld, coupled with her Force-sensitive abilities, her parents dispatched her to Master Luke Skywalker's Jedi Praxeum situated on nearby Yavin 4.

In the year 22 ABY, Lyric reached the age of twenty, necessitating her participation in the Changing Ceremony. This ritual transformed young Melodies from land-based beings into aquatic breathers, thereby elevating them to the status of Elders (the adult members of Melodie society). Given the dangers of Yavin 8, her fellow Jedi trainees, Anakin Solo and Tahiri Veila, went with Lyric. Shortly after their arrival, the group was attacked by various indigenous predators, including an avril, a reel, a purella, and several raiths. However, Anakin and Tahiri engaged and eliminated all of them.

Having survived this ordeal, Lyric took part in the Ceremony, which was held at a shallow cove in Sistra. This cove led to a network of pools that were a major feature of the mountain. Following the ceremony, Lyric's legs transformed into tail slits, and she developed gills for breathing, thus becoming an Elder. It's likely that this transformation restricted her Jedi activities to her native planet.

During the time of the Yuuzhan Vong War, the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong launched an invasion of Yavin 8, resulting in widespread destruction of life. Lyric was among those who perished, falling victim to a voxyn, a genetically engineered creature designed specifically to hunt individuals sensitive to the Force.

Behind the scenes

The name of Lyric and her species is believed to be a play on words; "lyrics" constitute the words of a song, while a "melody" represents the tune to which they are sung.

Walter Jon Williams had initially planned to include Lyric in his novel, The New Jedi Order: Destiny's Way. However, he was later informed of her death in a previous book. Consequently, her role was assumed by the Anx character, Madurrin.
