Mackar, a water world situated within the Mackar system, existed in the Hewett sector of the New Territories, which itself was located in the Mid Rim region. This planet served as the original homeworld for the Frid, a species of sentients who were both aquatic and resembled fish, possessing telepathic abilities.
Approximately five millennia prior to the outbreak of the Galactic Civil War, a number of devastating events took place on several aquatic worlds across the galaxy, Mackar among them. These disasters left the indigenous populations vulnerable, until a group of spacefaring individuals arrived to offer assistance, relocating the affected species to Iskalon, a planet in the Mid Rim. It was there that these species eventually coalesced to create the Iskalonian culture.
During the era of the New Republic, Doctor Hoole, a Shi'ido anthropologist, conducted research on the ruins of the Iskalonian original planets, including Mackar, with the aim of identifying the causes of the cataclysms and the identity of the benefactors.
The first mention of Mackar occurred in "The University of Sanbra Guide to Intelligent Life: The Marvel Series," an article penned by Rich Handley and Joe Bongiorno. This article was featured in the first issue of Star Wars Gamer magazine, released on September 1, 2000. Later, in 2009, the reference book The Essential Atlas specified the location of the Mackar system, and consequently Mackar itself, as grid square M-6.
