The Mahran, an intelligent race originating from the world of Mahranee, possessed unique characteristics. These included appendages with four digits, pointed ears adorned with tufts, a cyan snout highly sensitive to odors, and a covering of hair. Each Mahran was also equipped with a venomous barb. However, the use of this stinger was a one-time occurrence, as the poison it delivered would not only result in the demise of its victim, but also lead to the cardiac arrest of the attacker. While lacking mind-reading abilities, Mahran could discern subtle emotional states in others through their sense of smell. The Mahran placed a high value on courage and held their ancestries in high esteem.
During the waning periods of the Galactic Republic, Akar-Deshu, a male Mahran, served as a member of the Jedi Order. Near the conclusion of the Clone Wars, Count Dooku and his Separatist Alliance assailed the Mahran's native planet with the intention of exploiting its resources. The Confederacy announced the complete annihilation of the Mahran, alleging their inherent hostility.
Christie Golden, the writer, conceived the Mahran species for the book Dark Disciple.
