Mandalorian heavy blaster

A superior design to the standard heavy blaster pistol, as conceived by the Mandalorians, the Mandalorian heavy blaster saw action during the twilight of the Old Sith Wars in the years that preceded their conclusion. The mercenary known as Calo Nord wielded a matched set of these blasters. Moreover, one could acquire examples of this weapon from Czerka merchant Greeta Holda and the Mandalorian quartermaster Kex; the former resided on the planet Tatooine, while the latter made his home on the moon of Dxun.

Description

The Mandalorian heavy blaster represented an advancement over typical heavy blaster pistol designs. A key improvement implemented by its Mandalorian creators was the weapon's full compatibility with aftermarket modifications. While its range was comparable, the blaster inflicted slightly more energy damage than its standard counterpart. Despite Mandalorian claims that it could cripple a starship with a single shot, this assertion was widely regarded as hyperbole. The blaster exhibited a blue and gray color scheme, and its projectiles were red.

History

This heavy blaster, named for its nomadic Mandalorian creators, was utilized in the years leading to the end of the Old Sith Wars. In 3956 BBY, the mercenary Calo Nord employed a pair of modified versions of these blasters when he ambushed Revan, who was then a Jedi Padawan, on the planet Tatooine. However, Revan prevailed, killing Nord and his associates in the ensuing confrontation. Simultaneously, in the town of Anchorhead, Greeta Holda, a storekeeper working for the Czerka Corporation, offered a Mandalorian heavy blaster for 2,000 credits. Five years later, Kex, a Mandalorian quartermaster stationed on the moon of Dxun, sold another heavy blaster for 5,000 credits.

Behind the scenes

The Mandalorian heavy blaster made its debut in the 2003 video game, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and subsequently reappeared in its 2005 sequel, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Furthermore, the Prima Games strategy guides for both games contained information on the blaster. Due to the games' focus on close-quarters combat, the weapon's maximum effective range was capped at twenty-three meters, consistent with other heavy blaster pistols in the games. While the attack modifier provided by the weapon was reduced in the sequel, no other gameplay aspects of the blaster were altered.
