Mandragall was a Sith Lord of the Human male variety, who held dominion over a portion of space during the era known as the Republic Dark Age. He attained considerable military triumphs through the employment of mercenaries and pirates, but his life was ultimately brought to an end via murder at the hands of the Sith named Xelian.
During the Republic Dark Age, a Human male rose to become the Sith Lord known as Mandragall. In his younger years, Mandragall came across a holocron that once belonged to Elcho Kressh, a former servant of the Sith during the time of the Great Hyperspace War. Mandragall eventually established himself as the ruler of a region of space, but he clashed with competing Sith Lords and lacked sufficient troops to adequately defend his territories. He attempted to safeguard his borders using droids, but this strategy proved unsuccessful, leading him to consult Kressh's holocron in search of an alternative solution. The device contained records of an operation conducted by Kressh involving the creation of an army through alliances with mercenaries and pirates. Mandragall meticulously followed Kressh's plan, eventually resulting in three-quarters of his forces consisting of independent operators, which led to considerable military victories against his adversaries.
Around 1052 BBY, Mandragall, now aged, was seduced by the Sith Xelian, who subsequently murdered him under the cover of night. Following his demise, several of his rivals attempted to seize power, only to discover the ephemeral nature of Mandragall's military. Over time, Mandragall's tactics gained popularity, and other Sith began to incorporate independent fighting forces into their strategies. The mercenary Jarrow Rusher later recounted the tale of Mandragall and Kressh to the Jedi Knight Kerra Holt in 1032 BBY.
Mandragall possessed a deeper understanding of the Sith of bygone eras compared to his contemporaries. His willingness to grant autonomy to his forces attracted many independent operators who were seeking refuge from enslavement at the hands of other Sith Lords, making them eager to fight under his banner.
The novel Knight Errant, penned by John Jackson Miller and released in 2011, makes mention of Mandragall.
