The Max-7 Rono box freighter, also referenced as the Max-7 Rono, the Rono freighter, or simply Rono, represented a class of box freighter that saw usage during the Imperial Era.

The Max-7 Rono was a straightforward freighter design, suitable for the transportation of goods across substantial distances. It incorporated an elevated cockpit, accessed by a ladder situated at the vessel's front. At the rear, the ship featured a spacious, open cargo area with sides that could be opened and utilized as loading ramps. The ship's six engines—arranged with three on each side—were located at the back and incorporated both sublight and hyperdrive capabilities. Due to the absence of acceleration compensators, securing cargo was crucial to prevent damage from shifting items.
A specifically configured Max-7 Rono could be launched from a ramp equipped with a track and an overhead rail system. Prior to launch, the weight needed to be calibrated to determine the correct thrust ratio for takeoff. The weight could be ascertained using a load clutch handle positioned adjacent to the booster throttle, which displayed the weight on a dedicated gauge.

A Max-7 Rono was present at the Imperial base situated on Aldhani, housed within a hangar bay located behind the dam's payroll vault. Cassian Andor discovered that he was assigned to pilot this vessel during a rebel mission on Aldhani, as it was designated as their escape vehicle. During the heist operation, the infiltration team successfully reached the hangar as planned, but they faced an attack from base personnel under the command of Lieutenant Kimzi while in the process of loading, resulting in a casualty and forcing them to retreat into the freighter. Subsequently, Cassian initiated the Rono's launch through the tunnel and piloted it directly into the Eye of Aldhani, following the instructions given by Karis Nemik. This maneuver successfully evaded three pursuing TIE fighters, allowing them to escape into hyperspace. The rebel group utilized the freighter to reach their doctor on the moon Frezno, where they disbanded, with the team leader, Vel, retaining possession of the Rono.
