The Mikoans were a sentient species originating from the planet Miko. Possessing a humanoid form, they bore a striking resemblance to Humans, with the key distinction being their green skin tone. The Galactic Empire's advances were met with resistance from the Mikoans, until Moff Delurin initiated a bombardment of their homeworld from the prototype Dragon-class heavy cruiser. This display of overwhelming power forced their capitulation. However, their salvation arrived when Delurin, driven by ambitions of establishing his own Imperial splinter faction known as the "Warlord of Wild Space," abandoned the star system. Just as the Mikoans were on the verge of joining the New Republic, Delurin attacked them once more.
A significant Mikoan figure was Jade, a mercenary who undertook assignments for the Alliance to Restore the Republic. She was instrumental in providing the Alliance with crucial intelligence regarding the Galactic Emperor's presence aboard the Death Star II during the Battle of Endor.

The Mikoans originated on the planet of Miko, situated within the Sorella system. This system resided in the Tapani sector of the Colonies, along the Three Ellas Run hyperlane that connected the Dorella and Tavya systems. Although the Tapani sector was largely controlled by the influential Tapani Noble Houses, the Mikoan homeworld enjoyed a degree of autonomy as part of the Freeworlds Territory.
During the Galactic Civil War in 4 ABY, the Mikoans refused to recognize the authority of Galactic Emperor Palpatine. In response to their defiance, Moff Delurin of the Galactic Empire was sent to subdue the rebellious species. Delurin, overseeing the final trials of a prototype capital ship, the Dragon-class heavy cruiser, directed the vessel to the Sorella system and ordered the bombardment of cities on Miko. Initially, the Mikoans resisted the onslaught of turbolaser fire and concussion missiles. Eventually, however, they sought peace, pleading with Delurin to halt his assault. As the bombardment concluded, Delurin received news of the Emperor's death at the Battle of Endor. Disregarding orders to regroup in the Core Worlds, Delurin departed Miko to establish his own splinter faction of the Empire, proclaiming himself the "Warlord of Wild Space."
Following Delurin's departure, the Mikoans considered joining the New Republic. As diplomatic talks neared completion, Delurin returned to the star system aboard his cruiser, renamed the Galaxy Dragon. Traumatized by the previous bombardment, the Mikoans were paralyzed by indecision upon his arrival, leaving a small group of special operatives and the New Republic diplomatic delegation to mount a resistance against the Warlord.
As a young woman, Jade, a Mikoan, left her homeworld and pursued a career as a mercenary. While she considered herself non-aligned during the Galactic Civil War, she accepted paid assignments from the Alliance to Restore the Republic. For one such mission, Jade was stationed on Gellefon in the Korness system, where she regularly received information from a network of Bothan spies known as "Deep Ear." In this role, Jade received a highly classified transmission containing intelligence that the Galactic Emperor, Palpatine, would be present aboard the Death Star II in orbit above Endor during the Alliance's planned assault on the battle station.
Jade immediately contacted Alliance High Command and requested immediate extraction from Gellefon. However, her message was distorted, and the Alliance dispatched only a small team of operatives, believing the mission to be a routine intelligence retrieval. As Jade made contact with the Rebels, she encountered Borsk Fey'lya, who informed her of the capture and imprisonment of the Deep Ear team on Gellefon. Jade, Fey'lya, and the small group of Rebel operatives joined forces with a local resistance movement, the Gellefon Freedom Fighters, and successfully liberated the Bothans from captivity. They subsequently fled the planet and delivered the crucial intelligence to the Alliance commanders.
The Mikoans were conceived by Bill Slavicsek for the roleplaying game article "The New Republic Campaign: Preparing to Move Beyond the Movies," featured in Polyhedron 86 in 1993. Until 2003, Polyhedron magazine was not considered a canonical source. In 2003, Polyhedron gained official licensing, rendering all issues published since then canonical. However, this change is not retroactive, meaning the Mikoans remain outside of canon. In addition to the Polyhedron article, Slavicsek also included Mikoans in his article "The Galaxy Dragon and crew," which appeared in Dragon Magazine 200 later in 1993. Dragon Magazine is also an unlicensed source. While Slavicsek situated the Mikoan homeworld within a pre-existing canonical star-system from Lords of the Expanse, this does not affect the canonicity of the Mikoans themselves.
