Minister of Justice (New Republic)

The office of Minister of Justice existed within the government of the New Republic. As a crucial member of the General Ministry and various ruling councils, this minister held the fourth-highest position of authority. They were subordinate only to the Chief of State, the Minister of State, and the Supreme Commander. In the event that the Minister of State needed to temporarily replace the Chief of State, the minister of justice would then take on the responsibilities of the Minister of State.

There were similarities between the role of minister of justice and that of the chair of the Senate Justice Council. The minister of justice position came into being when the Provisional Council was dissolved between 10 ABY and 11 ABY. In 12 ABY, with the creation of the Ruling Council, the chair of the Senate Justice Council assumed the duties previously held by the minister of justice. The minister of justice position was brought back into existence in 19 ABY when Ponc Gavrisom began his term. When Borsk Fey'lya's tenure began in 23 ABY, the Senate regained its powers.
