Following the events of the Battle of Jedha, Jedi Master Creighton Sun and Jedi Knight Aida Forte embarked on a mission to the planet Dalna, their purpose being to investigate the Path of the Open Hand. Approximately two months after Jedi Knight Azlin Rell and Master Rinn journeyed to the Jedi High Council to deliver news of the deaths of Jedi Master Zallah Macri and her Padawan Kevmo Zink on Dalna, caused by an unknown weapon, Masters Gluth Andoi and Ela Sutan contemplated the new information and determined that the Force was guiding them to Dalna as well. Andoi, Sutan, Rinn, a reluctant Rell, along with several other Jedi, traveled to Dalna while Forte and Sun were present; Andoi's group soon discovered that another mission to Dalna, undertaken by Knight Oliviah Zeveron and Padawan Matthea Cathley, was also in progress to investigate the Path following the incidents on Jedha. Furthermore, a separate diplomatic mission to Dalna with Jedi support—originating from the Eiram system—was simultaneously underway. Andoi's team then joined forces with Zeveron, Cathley, and local Dalnan community members before proceeding to the Path compound, where the Night of Sorrow commenced, marking a period of conflict between the Path and the numerous Jedi who had arrived on Dalna.
